Oral Health Exams
We truly believe that regular dental examinations are important in order for your child to have good dental health and a smile that they can be proud of. We start by doing a professional cleaning, removing all of the bad tartar and other buildup on your child’s teeth to give them a beautiful smile.
We then do an examination, looking to catch and fix any problems before they become bigger ones. We examine each tooth, looking for any signs of decay, damage, or any other problems, such as signs of infection. We want to correct any problems your child may have before they get any worse.

Restorative Dentistry
Dental fillings are used to treat different dental problems like cavities and broken teeth. Teeth are usually filled with a material called composite resin, which is designed to look like the natural tooth.
For larger cavities, a filling is not sufficient. In those cases, stainless steels crowns are needed to restore those teeth. Sometimes nerve treatment can be needed as well depending on the depth of the cavity.

Preventative Dentistry
We recommend routine dental cleanings and checkups every 6 months. It is very important to see your pediatric dentist so they are able to diagnose any cavities or any other problem at an earlier stage.
We also perform professional cleanings at their regular visits where the plaque and tartar is removed and teeth are polished so your child’s teeth can shine. Fluoride treatment is also completed to help prevent any future tooth decay.

Emergency Dental Care
It is very important to be prepared in case your child has an emergency. Even though we wish that they wouldn’t, emergencies do happen. Being educated and knowing what to do in an emergency can be the difference between losing and saving a tooth. You also need to know your dentist’s phone number.
You need to contact us right away if you are having a dental emergency! If we are not open, go to the nearest emergency center.

Sealants
A dental sealant is recommended to protect the chewing surfaces of the child’s back teeth. The chewing surfaces of the back teeth have tiny grooves and pits which can be hard to get to clean even with brushing and flossing. The sealants can provide a protective coating to help prevent tooth decay in those grooves and crevices thus reducing the risk of cavities.

Silver Diamine Fluoride
Silver Diamine Fluoride is an anti-microbial agent used to stop the progression of cavities. SDF provides the quickest way to treat the carious lesion without drilling and filling in certain situations. Discuss with your pediatric dentist, if this is the right treatment for your child.

Sedation Dentistry
One of the most commonly used types of sedation is nitrous oxide, which is also known as “laughing gas.” This helps many children relax and alleviates their anxiety during their dental procedure.
Nitrous oxide is a combination of two different gases–-oxygen and nitrous oxide. We administer the gas through a small mask placed over your child’s nose.

Hospital Dentistry
Children who are of a young age, have high anxiety, or who have special health needs and who have extensive dental decay may receive a recommendation to have their dental treatment completed in a hospital setting. These cases are done on an outpatient basis at basis at our affiliate UPMC Western Maryland Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland.
